Activities & enrichment

Broadening life experiences

Our activities and enrichment programmes are key to helping students develop as well-rounded individuals. We aim to offer a variety of options tailored to each student's unique needs, interests, and hobbies, with the flexibility to adapt to their personal journey.

Each one is designed to enhance their cultural capital, broaden their life experiences, and support core British values of democracy. Here’s a breakdown of what we offer:

Cultural experiences

We strive to create opportunities for students that engage them in culture and heritage, whether that be through virtual experiences or in-person visits. We collaborate with Esland's network of school settings to offer students the chance to explore museums, galleries, and cultural landmarks to enhance their understanding of different perspectives and societies.

Clubs and interest groups

From art and music to coding and current affairs, we have a diverse range of clubs and interest groups for students to join. They offer an excellent opportunity to connect with their peers, build friendships and enjoy a sense of belonging and community. We try to incorporate in-person group activities to deepen these connections and create meaningful experiences whenever possible.

Guest speakers and workshops

We always seek ways to inspire our students and broaden their horizons. We invite various guest speakers to share their stories and expertise. These sessions provide personal insight into possible career paths, social issues, and personal growth, which encourages students to think outside the box in terms of their own development. We also work closely with our network of Esland schools to offer students access to live events and experiences.

Social responsibility and volunteering

Helping our students gain a sense of community and social responsibility is key for their future development into adulthood. We actively encourage students to immerse themselves in their local areas by creating connections and experiences with charities and community groups. Whether virtually or in person, they can participate in various volunteering events to further deepen their understanding of the world around them. These initiatives help to instil a sense of empathy and the importance of giving back to others.

Wellbeing and mindfulness

Beyond academics, we are dedicated to supporting our students’ emotional health. Our wellbeing and mindfulness programmes are designed to help them build resilience, manage stress, and develop essential life skills. True to our holistic approach, we also collaborate regularly with our network of Esland schools to provide in-person wellbeing activities.

Career pathways and personal development

Shaping young minds is a big responsibility and one we don't take lightly, which is why career guidance and personal development are central to our enrichment offering. We offer one-to-one mentoring, which includes career advice, life skills workshops, and opportunities for virtual work placements. We also aim to provide physical work experiences or in-person career events in collaboration with our network of Esland schools, providing a richer, more interactive learning experience.

Promoting British Values and cultural capital

Our commitment to British values is intrinsic to our varied blend of activities. Each option encourages students to embrace diversity, develop mutual respect, and appreciate the richness of different cultures. At Esland Online School, we foster an environment where students are encouraged to grow, engage with their local and global communities, and build the knowledge and skills necessary for success in both their academic and personal lives. Our main aim is to equip students with the tools they need to thrive in a dynamic and diverse society.
